End of Summer fun!

The weather has finally gotten really hot here in Ohio...after a fairly nice, cool summer! So we are making the most of the last days of summer sun and spending lots of time outside.

On one of our adventures outdoors, Josh and the boys found this caterpillar!  We discovered that it is an American Dagger Moth caterpillar and needed bark and leaf litter to make its cocoon.  So we collected the necessary items and in one day, our little guy was making a cocoon.  We are waiting for it to emerge in a week or so!  (We are a bit disappointed to know that it will be just a basic, brown looking moth...despite how exotic the caterpillar is!)
Joe's favorite thing EVER is to ride around in the wagon.  He never gets tired of it.  He sits in it even when it isn't moving.  The Three Musketeers developed this fun activity with the wagon and the hose set on a mist-spray one particularly hot day!  (Joe's expressions are just priceless!)
(We like to think he is praising the Lord in this picture!)
We also met some other homeschooled friends for a picnic lunch at a local natural park we love.  It was HOT...so hot, that the kids decided they needed to adopt the methods of elephants, rhinos and other hot mammals and emerge themselves in mud to cool off.  Oh, dear.
Joe stayed nice and clean, napping on Mommy's lap!  :-)
Cooler temperatures are rolling in and it is just beginning to feel a little like fall already!  We look forward to this next season, too!

Ack! I am so not a fan of cleaning up mud! Yuck! But it looks like they had fun. I love the wagon and mist pictures, priceless!
