Our North Dakota Adventure

Tomorrow we will start our journey back to Ohio, via a stop in Mankato, Minnesota. We have had a WONDERFUL time in North Dakota! It was so good to have some time with Shane, Raleigh and Gentry.
At the beginning of our trip, we took a "sub-trip" to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park on the west side of the state. We intended to camp for three days, but ended up staying in our tent for one night, enjoying the park during the day, "camping" in a hotel the next night and then coming back to Ral and Shane's house. Poor Jack got eaten alive by mosquitoes - so we may wait for more camping until he's a little older. But the park was beautiful and we had fun cooking out, making smores, exploring new terrains and seeing lots of wildlife: buffalo, feral horses, a mother mule deer and babies, a rattlesnake (try to spot the picture in the montage) and a few new bird species to add to our life list. The kids really enjoyed learning about it all and seeing the cabin where Teddy Roosevelt stayed when he spent time here. They liked the chair he used to sit in and read a 300-400 page book in one sitting! (Jake and Sarah can read almost that fast!)
Back in Grand Forks, we had fun swimming at the base pool, going bowling (guys vs. girls) and getting a tour of the fire station. Jack was in absolute heaven at the station - oohing and aahing over the various trucks. The smile never left his face when he got to sit inside the trucks. One firefighter actually took the kids on a drive and let Jake and Sarah man the water turrets at the top of the truck!
Thank you, Raleigh and Shane, for a great visit. We are so glad we were able to come and spend time with you and see this fascinating part of our country!
