After a long week and a half recovering from tonsil surgery, Jack was back to himself just in time for his third birthday! The celebration extended over a week or so - with Grandma Barb's present arriving just after his surgery. Since Daddy was home yesterday, he stayed home with George while Jack had some one-on-one time with Mommy! We went to the Kilohana Plantation to ride the train and feed the wild pigs! (You may remember we did this in the summer, but Jack loved the train so much, we knew it would be something special to do on his birthday!) He wore his Thomas engineer hat and the engineer gave Jack a special birthday whistle from the train! Afterward, we enjoyed lunch at McDonald's - one of the first times for Jack to eat food other than popsicles and pudding!
When we returned home, we celebrated as a family. Jack opened his gift - which you'll see from the video was a big hit. The theme for this birthday was definitely trains. Jack has just developed such a passion for trains - reading about them, drawing them, playing with them, making them out of chairs or pillows or stuffed animals. Now he has his own train set to play with. We completed the day with a homemade cake - gluten free so that Georgie could partake as well! :-)
This morning we awoke to his actual birthday. At exactly 8:06am, I held him in my arms and prayed over him, remembering the first moment we layed eyes on him three years ago.
The rest of our day included having his buddy Nate come over to make slime and eat some cake; going to Home Depot to ride around in the car shopping carts; stopping at Costco, where he chose to spend his $2 from Aunt Reagan and Uncle Adam on a Mocha Freeze at the food court; and home to play more trains!
We thank the Lord each day for our busy, energetic, loving, challenging, sparkle-eyed, beach-loving little boy. He keeps us on our toes and fills our home with love and joy and exuberance. He is a gift from the Lord and we pray that he will grow in wisdom and stature in this next year! Thank you for all of you who called, sent cards, gifts, messages or just thought of our little guy today!
