Well, I know many of you have been waiting to see photos of our new life in Curacao...and we've now been here two weeks! But with a tiny, inconvenient computer to work from, intermittent internet service, busy boys with not much to do but play with Mommy and Josh working a lot...there just hasn't been much of a chance to get caught up!
We are finally getting adjusted to life in hot Curacao! This is really a fascinating place. At once you are surrounded by the wealth of vacationing tourists from Europe or those from Holland who have second homes here; and then by the poverty of life in a Caribbean nation. The local language is Papiamentu: a blend of English, Spanish and Dutch and sounds a bit like Portugese ("Bon dia" for good morning, "Danki" for thank you, "Bon nochi" for good night, and our favorite, "Dushi" for sweetheart!) At the grocery store, many products are from Holland, so we need to know some Dutch words. We also get spoken to in Dutch quite a bit. But road signs, billboards, etc. are in Papiamentu. Everyone we've met speaks English, so we can communicate fairly easily...but we are going to try to learn some of the language while we are here!
We've seen a variety of beautiful birds (pairs of green parrots, flamingos, etc.) and some other wildlife: iguanas and other big lizards, geckos (fatter than in Hawaii), wild pigs and rabbits! The iguanas, as you will see from the pictures, like to sunbathe and we sometimes catch them up on roof tops!
The pictures of a house that you see are from our temporary home. We move into our new home on Monday morning...more photos to come. The home and yard hasn't been exactly child-friendly, but you can't tell the boys that! They make everything something to play with. The dirt drop off in the back becomes a slide. Buckets of water and ladles become a fun activity on a hot afternoon, etc.
Thank you for praying for us...please continue to do so as we get settled. We are praying for a good church family to get involved with and some friends to make it feel a little less lonely. I'll try to keep the blog updated as much as possible!

The water is so blue!! Absolutely beautiful! Looks like the boys are having fun back on the beach. Wish I could come there for spring break... I miss you all so much! Need to skype soon :)
