The Meyer family has enjoyed spending this winter in Ohio, as cold and snowy as it has been. But we are DEFINITELY ready for some Spring around these parts!!! We've had a few hints of Spring, with a couple of days in the low 60s....and the boys soaked it up, spending much of the time outdoors and with shirts flung aside as if they were back on an island!
As we wait, both for Spring and for word of where God will have us go next, we've been really enjoying our time together as a family. We take little trips around town during the week, enjoy fellowship with our friends from church, take walks in the park and do lots of fun home school projects. In fact...both boys are always asking me for a "project" or are collecting things for our next "project"!
So, in an attempt to catch up a little on our happenings in the last few weeks...we'll share some photos here.
In February, as part of the boys' AWANA program at church, they participated in the annual Regata boat race with little wooden boats they decorated. They had lots of fun using only their breath to make the boats race down a gutter filled with water.
George tended to just spit on the boat or push it with his lips, so big brother had to come to the rescue and help him out a little!
All the kids received medals (this was during the Olympics, so Jack was thrilled!) - but Jack was the overall champ of the races!

We did get a few more days of good snowfall...which meant more sledding! We found a better park with a great hill in town. Jack became a pro (although he did take a tumble and ended up with a black left eye - you can see it slightly in the photos above)!
He loved riding with Daddy...
...and even Mommy took a turn! (This was my first time sledding EVER...being the Arizona girl that I am. And, as fun as it was...it is my last. Sledding is not made for Mommy's with joint troubles!)
The boys carried on with their boat-themed play back at home. We got a circular, strong magnet at the hardware store and tied it on a stick to serve as a fishing pole. They spent hours discovering which items were magnetic and which weren't. They made a boat on the couch, went fishing for magnetic items and even included baby brother in the play!
As winter drew to a close, we finally got to take Jack for an ice skating lesson. (We had signed him up earlier, but with the terrible illness that hit our family and the terrible weather, we missed the previous lessons.) He was so thrilled!
He was so good right from the start! The poor teacher spent most of her time just getting the other kids to keep standing on the ice. But Jack and one other boy did very well.
George opted to cheer from the sidelines.
On warmer days, this is what we like to do...head to the park for Josh to run, Jack to ride his bike and the little ones and I take a walk. Jack is so pleased to have a chance to finally really ride his bike that he received for Christmas!
And having a picnic lunch in the backyard is always nice, too!
We've made a few trips to our local children's discovery museum. This time, with Daddy, Jack decided to try the "Nature's Fury: Hurricane" activity! (Jack has recently been completely absorbed with extreme weather, especially tornadoes. He is very fearful of them...but wants to read books about them at the same time. He didn't seem to mind the Hurricane tunnel, though!)

This time, Joe was really engaged and observant...especially when it came to the Meerkats!
And he presided nobly as judge of the court of law...
...convicting George to some jail time!

...and about freshwater stingrays. There is a new exhibit about the Amazon: "Vicious Fishes and Other Riches" which is very interesting.
The boys even got to "interact" with a 60-pound boa constrictor!
(Just in case you were worried...it is a replica!)

...and Jack's favorite, the dancing/light room! That kid has some moves, let me tell you!
At home, we play Legos. Lots...and...lots...of...Legos....Jack is our Master Builder!

Of course there is lots of brother interaction going on. Now that Joe is getting a little bigger, the boys find him even more fun!
My "big" boys - so handsome! Wearing adorable sweaters sent to us by Grammy. They made quite an impression at church on Sunday, my dashing lads! ;-)
In an effort to keep this post...well...shorter than it would have been...I will save our schooling activities for another day!

Oh my, such a full post of adventures! I'd say you use your winter waiting hours well! Love you all!
Each of these adventures had me in stitches!! Your boys are so full of life and expressions. Dad can appear to look like a tough old biker on occasion but then you look at how tender he is with Joe and it all melts away. Looks like a fun time at every turn...warm or cold weather. Grammy misses you all...and LOVES YOU!!!!
So much cuteness I can't even handle it!!! Wow, you guys have been busy! Love and miss you so much!
