Well, our wonderful summer together in the tropics has come to an end. Jake and Sarah flew home to San Antonio last night with Grandma Barb - after lots of tears and hugs at the airport. Jack woke up this morning wandering around the house asking, "Grandma? Jake? Sarah?" It is really hard to believe the summer is over - after looking forward to it for so long!
But what a way to end it! We had a great last two weeks. Grandma and the kids got to see some beautiful plants at the National Tropical Botanical gardens; we took a drive all the way to the North Shore, stopping at the Kilauea Lighthouse (the northnernmost point on the Hawaiian islands), Opaekaa Falls and stopping to take a picture of a huge, distant watefall. We spent three days at the Hale Makana cabin up in the mountains. The kids played in the three-level tree house and had "pinecone wars" with Dad! We all enjoyed the quiet and cool temperatures and time together as a family without distractions. Our last two days were spent at a beach cottage on the naval base where Josh works. The first morning, we awoke to a joyful Spinner Dolphin show in view off of the back porch - those dolphins lept and spun right around two boats of tourists! Josh enjoyed boogie boarding and Jack and George soaked up the sun and beach they love so much. Sarah was also able to finish her crocheted poncho project she'd been working on all summer! (She had two compliments on the plane trip home, we heard!)
It was a hard thing to let the kids go. We had such a wonderful time together and the little boys love their big brother and sister so much. But we will pray for them and love them from afar until the Lord brings us closer to them and we hope they have many sunny, loving memories of their time with us this summer. And Barb! We hope you have lots of wonderful memories of Hawaii and grandbabies to keep you smiling for a long time!
We love you all so much!
