Snow day!

What fun it was to wake up to about four inches of snowfall this morning! (Although I'm sure it isn't fun for those who have spent all winter in Ohio and are just ready for Spring!) It was absolutely beautiful...perfect, pristine, fluffy snow and no icy wind to make it miserable to be outdoors!
Barb is one tough cookie...she had almost the entire (long) driveway shoveled before noon!
Our cat, Mr. Darcy, loved romping through the snow.  It was interesting to find many different types and sizes of animal tracks in the snow.
Jack was ecstatic to be outside in the snow again, throwing snowballs....until his hands began to hurt, and he ran inside to warm up under Grandma's blankets.  So much for our grand plans of building a big snow man this time!
The cold didn't seem to bother George quite as much and he got great joy out of throwing snowballs at Mommy's coat!
And we decided to try something new.  I'm almost certain this idea came from something I read in a Laura Ingalls Wilder book as a child.  We collected fresh snow in a bowl and drizzled real maple syrup over the top....the outcome was DELICIOUS!  All four of us were enjoying the sweet treat!
We are so glad we got to enjoy one more day of snow before we head off for sunny Arizona tomorrow!

What fun! Yes....Big House in the Woods has them eating Maple Sugar. We were hoping for snow to try this out ourselves this year!

Mr. Darcy!! I had forgotten where he went!!

The snow treat from LIttle House was actually maple syrup or molassess that is cooked, then you pour it out into a pan of snow so that the snow can instantly cool the cooked syrup into candy! It's in the Little House Cookbook you gave me! Although just eating the snow and syrup looks like fun, too.
