We weren't able to get the kids until after Father's Day, since they were on vacation. But we did the best to make Sunday special for Josh. We started by collecting mulberries from the two trees in Barb's yard that are heavy with berries.
Picking each berry individually is really time consuming, so Josh came up with a better way. We spread out an old blanket underneath and he shook the branches!
And...voila! We had a whole bowlful of berries with which to make a pie for Father's Day! (We had to keep Jack from eating the berries himself!)
Here is the finished product! It turned out pretty well and tasted delicious! (We think the Lego man in the background adds a nice touch!)
The next day, Josh spent over 13 hours in the car in order to pick up Jake and Sarah, but timed it so that we would all have dinner and a birthday celebration together that evening. The little boys picked out a Superman shirt for him...so that he could match them when they wear their Superman jammies!
Sarah made this sweet sign for him:
And Joe...well, he just enjoyed chewing on the cards and watching the unwrapping!
The traditional, yearly shot of Josh with his crew!
And a shot of ninja Joe, looking as fierce as an almost-nine-month old can! :-)
Josh received two fishing poles and a tackle box for Father's day from the boys, so we attempted to go fishing the next day. The poles didn't work quite right and a certain enthusiastic 5-year old got one line so hopelessly tangled, we just called it a day.
Our next outing was bowling on base - a favorite family past time!
We are already having such fun with the kids. Summer is going to get a bit busier in the next few weeks - involvement in our church's Vacation Bible School, a family vacation (more later), Joe's ear tube surgery (July 14th), etc. We are going to make the most of every minute. As always, the kids all blend right back together and make us all feel like a complete family when we are together. It is such a beautiful thing!
