We continued our tradition of having donuts for breakfast, along with tea in their new owl mugs!
Toby was so happy to be home with the rest of his family for the start of his 5th grade year!
Jack is our resident 3rd grader!
George is excited for all he will learn as a 1st grader!
And Joe is holding down the pre-pre-school front!
We couldn't be happier with our choice of Beautiful Feet Books study of Early American History for Primary Grades, starting out with a study of Leif Erickson and the viking discovery of North America.
During break time, the boys immediately took out their Play Mobile viking toys and re-enacted a bit of what we'd read.
After our morning time together, the boys break for individual time with Mom. So far the schedule is working well and each boy gets my undivided attention for at least 15-20 minutes.
Joe works on puzzles or learning games close by.
As a fun end to our first day, the boys requested the chance to set up an obstacle course, to be run by a brother wearing the inflatable Sumo suit a friend gave us! It was a huge hit.
The boys have enjoyed each of the new things we've incorporated into this year, but one of their favorite activities was our art lesson. They had to make a still life drawing, focusing on the contours of the objects in front of them. They did great! (We are using this fantastic Art Lab for Kids book for the basis of our art lessons.)
On Friday, we had a fun opportunity to join our new friends (homeschoolers, as well!) for a "Back to School/pool" party!
Toby used one of the girl's mermaid tails and swam like a graceful dolphin!
Right in the middle of the week, George's first loose tooth (it has been loose since the beginning of July!) made a last stand....and Joe tried to help it along a little.
It worked and George proudly lost his first tooth! He used his new "tooth fairy/mom" pillow and was one happy kid!
We are grateful for the chance to have our children home as we educate them and see them learn and grow each day. We pray the rest of the year is filled with the joy and enthusiasm we experienced in our first week!! More learning adventures to come!
