We spent our last two weeks with Sarah here enjoying some beautiful nearby areas. We took a trip to Kanab, Utah and stopped at Navajo Lake on the way. From the road, Jack spotted this Bald Eagle on a branch...can you spot it??!
Navajo Lake is beautiful! And since we our beloved Yankee Meadows has been closed off because of the fire (rumors have it being closed for the next five years), we've decided this is our new favorite place to spend a day in nature.
Finding a dead fish is always exciting!
Kanab is a neat little town, but what impressed the boys the most were the Coral Pink Sand Dunes - a state park. They could have spent ALL day here!
(Sarah was not much of a fan!)
It had rained earlier in the afternoon, so it was cool and the sand was slightly damp and the consistency of brown sugar!
(Yes, that is George and Joe in the distance!)
Though the dunes were definitely amazing - I learned my lesson that with my ankle injury, I have no business trying to climb them. I needed lots of help getting OUT of the dunes!
We were cleaning sand off bodies and clothes and the car for DAYS - but it was so worth it!
We also made a quick stop at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Sarah had been longing to see the Grand Canyon on one of her trips out west, so we tried to make that happen! But we didn't have much time to spend there, since we were actually on our way to meet someone...
...Josh's childhood best friend, Steve! They had not seen each other for 31 years! But after making contact recently, we got a call that Steve and his son were going to be at the Grand Canyon, so we arranged to meet for lunch. It was so great to see these two old friends reconnect! What stories they had to share of their Huck Finn-type childhood in Florida!
We made one more trip to Navajo Lake before Sarah left. We brought our camp stove and had hot dogs for lunch and s'mores for lunch. It was a wonderful day!
Sarah is now home, but we had a wonderful summer packed full of new memories together. We miss her (and Jake) so much and can't wait to see them again!

Such fun times! In these open spaces I can only imagine how much fun the boys have running free! My heart sympathises with you on the sand. Do you remember rescuing me at Poipu Beach? What a mess! More fun memory making! Hugs and Kisses to all from Grammy!!
