Fun Summer Days

Last Saturday, we had a great visit from Josh's cousin Angie and her family. They have four kids - Olivia, Sophia and the 18-month old twins Owen and Isabelle. Jake and Sarah had so much fun playing with the older girls. And Sarah secretly pretended little Isabelle was her little sister! We took a fun cousin photo...reminiscent of the ones the Kerger cousins used to take with the kids sitting oldest to youngest.



Jack has all but abandoned regular baby food. He wants to eat what we eat and does a fairly good job of it, with only two teeth! He absolutely loves meat....we usually give him a hunk of steak, a piece of bacon or a chicken leg when we eat those things and he loves them. He also enjoys gnawing corn on the cob, eating mashed potatoes and anything and everything we eat for dessert!


Kamie took Jake and Sarah to the Knox County Historical Museum, just down the road from our home. The kids saw all sorts of neat memorabilia and historical artifacts. Mount Vernon has some claims to fame...it was the home of Dan Emmett (a musician who wrote "Dixie" which ironically became the popular theme song of the Confederacy), Johnny Appleseed came here often to deliver apple seeds and begin nurseries from Pennsylvania, and there used to be the Cooper-Bessamer plant which produced huge steam farm engines and compressors. It is now owned by Rolls-Royce and still produces compressors for oil drills and jet engine parts. Jake and Sarah had to take notes about what they learned...things like there was a one-room school house built every four miles so that no child would have to walk more than two miles to school! Sarah liked the old quilts and antique wedding dress. Jake liked the old steam farm threshing machines and the old telephone.





We have fun in the evenings, going for a ride down the road in the old pickup truck, picking apples off of trees (which Jack loves) and watching Dad...the expert marksman...shoot groundhogs. (Just to put your minds at ease....groundhogs are varmints and are really destructive. Recently, a farmer in Knox county was killed when his tractor hit a groundhog hole in the field and his tractor flipped on top of him...so...groundhogs in farmers' fields are the enemy.)



We miss you all and send our love from the farm...or, as Josh says...from "God's country"!
