So, living in Kaua'i allows us to see lots of neat animals and plant life that we would never see elsewhere on a normal day. One of our favorites is the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal that hangs out at Poipu Beach down the road. Even when there are crowds of beachgoers, this seal loves to sunbathe and nap - protected by the lifeguards with posts and rope to give it plenty of uninterrupted space. It is so neat to see one of these up close!

We've also had the occasion of spotting migrating Humpback whales off the coast - hopefully more to come in February/March and a chance to take pictures.
One of the lesser animals of our world is the rather large snail that makes its way around our yard. Jack is fascinated by this slow moving creature. (I am disgusted, but for the sake of learning, I let him explore!)
We also have a host of lizards/geckos that roam around. There are green ones outside during the day which we sometimes spot running into my shoes on the porch! Then there are the clear, chirping ones that come out at night and roam around the house eating mosquitoes. Since I'm not a fan of these, I sometimes suck them up with the vacuum to get them out of the house and sit it on the front porch so Jack can watch it intently as it crawls amidst the dust bunnies! All is well, since the lizard usually escapes or is safely emptied out by Josh when he gets home the next morning!
So, we'll continue to enjoy all we can learn about this interesting place! Kind of neat to think that Jack has seen camels in the Arabian desert and whales and seals in the Pacific!

Ewwwww, snails! You are lucky to have so much wildlife in your backyard. Love ya!
You make me laugh with your outdoor creatures... good thing you live in a house of boys to save you. Love the pictures!
You are giving your boys such wonderful life experiences! And that is so neat for Jack that he has lived in the Middle East and Hawaii and had very different adventures in both places.
