We had a wonderful opportunity to take a short vacation to Maui to visit our friend Deborah this past weekend. It was George's first flight and first time off of the island of his birth, and he did great with all of the travelling! Jack was thrilled to be on a plane, especially since we had checked out a book from the library about flying on a plane and he had been looking forward to it for so long!
Maui is very different from Kaua'i and we really appreciated the chance to see another island up close! We visited the old town of Lahaina where the oldest Banyan tree in Hawaii is; we watched surfers and ate at a fish shop in Pa'ia (which reminded us of a Hawaiian version of Austin, Texas); we took a drive up to Haleakala National Park, driving above the cloud line and braving truly COLD winds to see the spectacular volcano crater; we saw Silver Sword plants - an endangered plant with fragile roots that grows on Haleakala; on the drive down through the Up Country, we stopped at the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm and soaked in the beauty of one of the most spectacular places we've ever been; and on our last day, we visited a beautiful beach where Jack immediately made friends with a couple of kids, George happily dug into the sand (and tasted it) and Josh, sadly, lost his wedding ring in the surf.
We are so grateful to Deborah for encouraging us to come explore Maui and spend time with her. We had a wonderful time observing God's majesty all around us and fell in love with the Up Country! We returned to our beautiful Kaua'i with a renewed sense of joy at this opportunity we have to live in Hawaii, for however long God has us here!

Okay, there seems to be something not quite right about seeing the boys in hooded sweatshirts! Hard to believe it was THAT cold! The scenery and the music makes me want to come back..especially to take a bite out of Georgies fat cheeks and hug on little blonde surfer boy!! Love and miss you all, Tutu!!!
