Jack LOVED coloring his eggs...and was very serious about the whole process. He moved the eggs around so much, they all eventually ended up being the same color...but he had a grand time in the process.
The other special activity was taking large marshmallows (which represent the body of Jesus) and wrapping them in crescent rolls (which represent the burial clothes) then putting the tray into the oven (which represents the tomb). Jack was serious about this activity, too...especially when it came to putting the tray in the oven. When the rolls finish baking, the marshmallows have melted and leave a hole in the "clothes"...Jesus isn't there! He is ALIVE!!! This is a wonderful, pictoral activity for our kids to focus on the true meaning of Easter and one that we will do each year as our kids are young. It was obvious to us that even as young as Jack is, he did understand some of it. After the rolls were finished baking, we saw that he had taken out his small book of Bible stories and had it turned to the story of the tomb being empty!!
The boys had matching outfits for Easter Sunday....Hawaiian style with plaid shorts and matching ties. Sadly, Jack would not cooperate enough for us to get a picture of both of the boys together in their duds. But they were the hit at church! (And probably the only guys in ties, seeing as how our church is filled with surfers whose idea of dressing up is wearing shoes instead of flip flops to church!)
It was a busy Sunday at our church with tons of visitors/tourists...so we decided to help serve the Lord and others that day. Josh was a greeter, helped set up and serve communion and I filled in as the teacher for the 3-4 year old classroom.....16 KIDS plus my two boys....whew! A friend snapped this picture of our family at the end of the service - glad to have at least one family photo!
